This stainless steel stack vise is designed specifically to clamp 20KHz converter front slugs and booster spanner "collars" during assembly or disassembly to reduce damage to expensive ultrasonic stack components.
The vise features two clamping chambers, one for tooling 1.5" (25.4 mm) dia. and one for tooling 1.8" (45.7 mm) dia. The two-pin hinge design allows the upper jaw to "float" and seek the best clamp position on the tool for maximum contact. The securing bolt has a long lever handle that can be re-positioned out of the way once secured. The securing bolt can be completely removed so the upper vise jaw can be fully opened. The steel spanner-hole pins are set in stepped holes such that they can be driven out from the bottom of the vise should they ever need replacement.
The footprint of the vise is 5.25" (133.4 mm) by 4.0" (101.6mm). Mounted on the edge of a workbench or tool cart, it is easy to rotate large horns in space when the booster is clamped, and the converter is kept safe over the top of the bench or cart.
The usual stack assembly procedure is to clamp the converter and add the booster, then clamp the booster and add the horn. Disassembly occurs in reverse order. This ensures that the converter front slug is best protected from spanner hole damage which could result in premature converter failure. This also frees up both hands so the component being assembled or disassembled can be supported as it is being rotated.
Note: 1.5" (38.1 mm) dia is the standard size of 900 series and most other 20KHz converter front slugs and many 20KHz booster and horn spanner collars. Front slugs for 2000, 2000X and DCX series converters (CJ-20, CR-20, CH-20 and AM44C20 models) are 1.625" (41.3 mm) diameter and won't fit this tooling vise. If you have both this vise and the one that fits the CJ-20 family converters, this one will have the number 9 stamped in the top of the upper jaw near the hings pin, whereas the one that fits the CJ-20 family will have the number 2 stamped in the top of the upper jaw near the hinge pin.
